| May 27, 2011 | Posted by admin under inspiration, kids helping animals, kids with character, whats right with kids today, WRWKT |
Dominic Geragi is one of the planet’s youngest environmentalists and animal activists. This seven year old wonder boy has used many modes of communication and activism to make a difference in the lives of animals living on and around various continents. Among those are a video tweet to President Obama requesting that we stop drilling for oil in the gulf, emails to educate fisherman about saving the seals and he has even used YouTube as avenue to inspire people to respect nature and the animals who share the environment with us.
You can read more about this fabulous kid making a difference in his local community and our global community to creatures with legs, fins, flippers and wings at Kids Are Heroes.

Jeff Hanson:15 Year Old Artist Raises over 100,000 for charities
| April 10, 2009 | Posted by admin under inspiration, jeff hanson, make a wish foundation, what's right with kids today? Elton John |
Jeff Hanson is a Kansas City artist who raised more than $100,000 for charties last year. But Jeff is not your average artist. Jeff is 15 years old … legally blind … and is truly making a difference. He has a brain tumor that has robbed him of much of his vision, and could someday rob him of his life. But instead of feeling sorry for himself, he decided to make an effort to help others, including those who have helped him.
He started selling note cards in his driveway a couple years ago, and has since expanded to the point that Elton John is one of his customers. The singer commissioned Jeff to create a series of murals for his AIDS foundation residences in South Africa. The two met through the Make A Wish Foundation, and have become good friends. Jeff raises money for Elton’s charity, and eleven other charities, most of whom have helped him out. He donates paintings for auctions, sells note cards, calendars, etc that fund the various charities. Jeff has an art show at a gallery in Kansas City in July that will raise money for the local children’s hospital as well as an orphanage in South Africa.
This inspiring young man encourages us to use our gifts in support of others, regardless of our life situation. We can always share of ourselves in a meaningful way and oftentimes when we do, it takes the focus off of our “woe” and puts it on our “wow”!
