These students were given an assignment in a class to come up with a way to discover if a patient was anemic without using a test that required electricity. So, like kids at a craft table in an elementary art class, the students got busy with a glue gun, plastic containers and lids to turn a salad spinner into a hand-spun centrifuge. more
Harvard Students Create the Soccket Soccer Ball: Providing Energy for Africans OFF the GRID

Brilliant Kids Changing the world yet again!
Divergent thinkers, creative problem solvers and environmentalists–not to mention Harvard students Jessica Lin, Jessica O. Matthews, Julie Silverman, and Hemali Thakkar offer up an idea that is incredible on multiple accounts.
These young women became aware that shockingly more than ninety percent of the African population lives off the grid. Living with no electricity, many of these people play soccer whenever they get the chance—after all there are no TV’s to watch, computer games to play or the ability to have long cell phone conversations. These brilliant and creative girls had an idea that is truly awesome.
These young minds developed a soccer ball that can actually capture energy from every single kick, dribble, and throw, and stingily stores it for later use. The implications of this is staggering. A child can go play a game of soccer with friends, kick and juggle the ball all the way home AND then upon arriving home home actually charge an LED lamp, cell phone, or battery!
This seriously reduces the use of expensive and unhealthy kerosene lamps and the long walks needed to get to a source to charge cell phones. In the future the founders hope the SOCCKET Ball will not only power single-family homes but also hospitals and schools. The positive outcomes of this invention on individual kids and families is remarkable: Not only will this save people a lot of money–that money will be better used for schooling, clothing and food. Child labor will be significantly reduced and soccer time actually become good for the family and community.
Kudos and a special acknowledgment goes out to Jessica Lin, Jessica O. Matthews, Julia Silverman and Hemali Thakkar, the SOCCKET Ball Team from WRWKT! You are changing the world!
All the best!

18 Year old Travis Allen's Important Public Service Message
| February 16, 2010 | Posted by admin under CS4seniors.com, Ischool initiative, Rena Reese, Soul Salon International, the soul salon, Travis Allen, whats right with kids today, WRWKT |
When I saw this public service announcement from Travis Allen, I got chills. The sort of chills that the body uses to confirm to the mind and heart that you are seeing, hearing or experiencing a profound truth, something really important or divinely inspired. This message is so important– and it touches the heart even more when you learn that it was created by an 18 year old–not a baby boomer trying to get the grand-kids to call.
Perhaps you recall the name Travis Allen since he was featured on the WRWKT Blog in May of 2009. Well, he is still up to a lot of creative good stuff that is worthy of another feature. This video is worth taking a look at and sharing with your friends. It may mean the difference between connection and isolation for a special senior out there! Don’t get derailed and all “political minded” before you see this posting. This blog is not about politics, it is about kids. This articulate, passionate, independent minded (remember this is not political) teen has a delivery and depth to his message. He is more than a speaker, politician, actor and teen–he is an example of what using your gifts and living your passion looks like in the real world.

Take a look at this little cutie who has mind-blowing vocals in this segment. I wish I knew his name so I could give him due credit for his beautiful gift. It is a reminder to me and all of you that we all come here with natural gifts and abilities and we should never hesitate to use them and share them. Something tells me that this child’s singing skill is something that we will see more of as he grows up.
Our national anthem is beautiful– and coming from a child it is even more magnificent. More of WHat’s Right With Kids Today!
